The Museum of Prehistory of Nardò is located in the former convent of St. Anthony of Padua. In the museum you can see artifacts found in the area of Nardò, which attest to the history of the area from about 75 million years ago. You can admire a collection of fossil fish from the last phases of the Cretaceous period, up to the Neolithic period and the Bronze Age.
The largest section of the exhibition consists of the finds discovered during the archaeological research in many caves in the Regional Park of Porto Selvaggio and Capitano’s marsh.
The collected data are so numerous that it is possible to delve into issues related to climate change, landscape transformation and the evolution of the coastal land.
