THE OLD TOWN CENTRE CELEBRATES "THE CIRCONAUTA"
Acrobats, jugglers, trapeze artists and clowns bring everyone into the dimension of fantasy!
The Circonauta International Festival of Theatre / Circus and Street Arts has become a regular fixture of Nardò’s summer. During the Circonauta Festival, the old town centre is transformed into a “stage everywhere” to provide the setting for the show, sounds and colors that only the circus can offer. A rich programme of acrobats, jugglers, trapeze artists and clowns accompanies everyone into the dimension of fantasy for three unforgettable days in July, August and September.
Circonauta Festival is promoted and supported by the Municipality of Nardò, Teatro Pubblico Pugliese, Mibact and realized by the Circonauta Association (the latter was created to promote street arts and spread contemporary circus culture). With the patronage of Apulia Region, Puglia Promozione and Istituto delle Culture Mediterranee.
Previous editions were characterized by special events with exceptional artist such as the French company Les P'tits Bras, with their show “Triplette” on the flying trapeze in Duomo square; the wooden puppet show by the Bulgarian master Teodor Borisov in The Great Bulgarian wolf, in the evocative setting of the Villa Comunale.
For the 2022 edition… stay tuned !
The Festival policy is based on the involvement of local cultural realities, implementing strategies of inclusion, according to the principle of "networking for a common goal", and creating a new workforce. Circonauta Festival has become a driving force for the growth and enhancement of the community of Nardò, and involves shopkeepers and tour operators in a wide-ranging collaboration and promotion.
