The Church, originally dedicated to the Annunciation, was built around 1460. The building underwent many phases of reconstruction until it reached its current appearance. Particularly decisive is that one of the half of the 1500, after the siege of the city during the French occupation of Salento and that which followed the earthquake of 1743.
The Church is located in the heart of the historic center of Nardò, between Salandra square and San Paolo gate. At the entrance to the church, the statues of two imposing lions capture the attention of visitors. The main façade features motifs from the Romanesque period: two half columns enclose niches with the statues of the Angel Gabriel and the Virgin of the Annunciation; in the upper order, there is a large window and an architrave with different motifs.
Next to the church there is the former convent of Discalced Carmelites, today it houses some municipal offices.
